Overview
Our team participated in a 10 week design sprint to create a product for individuals to foster their skillset. Our goal is to help them progress into a career in the arts and humanities.
I led our team for the end-to-end design direction from ideation to assembling our high fidelity prototypes. I created the wireframes and interactive flow for our calendar feature. We were able to present our product proposal in a class fair where stakeholders and peers shared their thoughts on our design.
What is QuikDraw?
What is QuikDraw?
What is QuikDraw?
A mobile application to kickstart the motivation to create by prompting users daily to make art and share their work with communities of friends. Our goal is to provide a low pressure outlet to inspire and remix what users see from the communities to grow their own skillset.

Your Future is Our Business (YFIOB) is a non-profit organization based in Santa Cruz that helps youths in their journey of finding a fulfilling career.
YFIOB was seeking proposals for a digital product that could be a resource for youth interested in the arts and humanities as a career path.

How can we introduce youth to the arts and humanities in a fun and engaging way?

We conducted a quantitative analysis from interview transcripts from individuals who work in the arts industry as well as those who teach youth about arts and humanities. We coded the interviews, identified user groups and problem statements, and designed themes to articulate user needs.

An emphasis on providing a space to allow people to be heard and voice their thoughts through an arts lens
Using art as an outlet to break a negative influence and build a sustainable relationship for the future

Ideation
Our team brainstormed How-Might-We statements based on topics such as supporting youth in their career journey and providing mentoring resources for teachers and volunteers for constructing our concepts.

With our HMW prompts to help us guide what needs we were addressing as well as our personas we developed, the team created about 75 solution concepts and discussed together to determine what would be our top three choices. We prepared our three solution concepts and presented them to four individuals who either working or mentoring students in the arts and humanities.
We accompanied our solution concepts with storyboards to present to our interviewees during our speed-dating interviews.
For our interviews, we conducted speed dating styled interviews to provide an overview of our three solution concepts and observe initial responses to our ideas.

Prototype
Time to get to work! From sketching low fidelity prototypes to mapping out task flows, our prototype consisted of key screens showcasing drawing on the canvas, viewing gallery, calendar and viewing past posts, and user profiles.

Define
After reviewing our gatherings from our interviews, we came to a consensus that there seem to be an alignment towards the notion of building a community and utilizing social media as an environment to foster the arts.
"I think it could make a sense of community. I think it'd be cool if different school districts … in general could have BeReal, private, be real where everyone at the school could show they could all follow the same prompt"
"I think that this would be really interesting for them, and kind of like a fun, what's it going to be today? And it might take away some of I feel like the hardest part of creating is starting and it takes away that what do I work on today?"
"There is a really rich history online of people doing daily drawing prompts, or Inktober …And I think that it is both really fun to be given the constraints that you have to follow and also to do your own and see how other people interpret it, I think is just a very captivating idea"
"It seems like something that would be useful for like, again, like as something like Oblique Strategies, like if you're already you're practicing artists, and you're like, Oh, I'm stuck. I don't know what to do. And having that little, like, again, that kind of like, lateral push to, like, move you in a different direction"

What did I learn?
This was my first experience leading a design team and sprint, so it was a challenging experience learning how design sprint dedicated for user experience on the fly while leading a team. However, it was rewarding as I saw how each stage built to a fleshed out solution. It was also my first attempt creating high fidelity prototypes so it was fun to experiment and see what we could create in the time given.
I would like to thank my team for giving me the opportunity to collaborate!
So what's the future for QuikDraw? After presenting our project proposal, the future of this project is potentially in production, keep an eye out 👀
